The Yen Campaign
Yen meaning ‘trees’ in Leb Lango, the language used by the Lango people in Northern Uganda.
We are a small, independent business that is committed to sustainability. The abundance that nature gives to us, we want to give back to nature. To regenerate the land, protect and preserve the biodiversity of the land of which we find our inspiration, Uganda.
As of June 2020, for every tree that we use for our products, we will plant three young trees in the same Lango Region, Northern Uganda native land of our Shea Trees. Planting new trees will importantly also help to sequester carbon emissions as well as produce oxygen. We are excited that with your purchases we can make a greener impact on our planet!
The Empower Her Project-The fight for period dignity
We are proud to be a sponsor of The Empower Her Project and to have supported them with their outreach in June 2019. The Project provides sustainable solutions for menstrual hygiene management for girls in secondary schools located in rural Uganda. The project offers sustainability through locally produced reusable pads which last up to 3 years, facilitating educational workshops for both girls and boys, tackling and transforming harmful social norms and taboos, and skills training for girls to make their own reusable pads from locally sourced materials.
Menstruation is an integral and normal part of human life. Effective menstrual hygiene management is fundamental to the dignity and the wellbeing of women and girls and essential in meeting their basic human rights.
So far the project has trained 125 schoolgirls and teachers in rural Uganda.
